Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 3, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how SyncYourDevice.com ("the site," "I," "we") handles information when you visit. SyncYourDevice.com is an independent resource and is not affiliated with Microsoft.
Information collected
- Information you provide. If you leave a comment, or send a message through the contact form on this site, I receive what you submit — for example your name, email address, and the content of your message or comment. The contact form is powered by WPForms; submissions are emailed to me and may be stored in this site's WordPress database so I can read and reply to them.
- Automatically collected data. Like most websites, standard server logs and analytics may record technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device, referring page, and the pages you view. For analytics I use WP Statistics, a privacy-focused plugin that stores stats on this site's own server rather than sharing your browsing with a third-party ad network, and Ahrefs Analytics, a cookieless, privacy-focused analytics service that shows aggregate page statistics without tracking you individually across the web. When this site runs search advertising campaigns, Google Ads and Microsoft Advertising conversion-measurement tags may also run: these set advertising cookies to measure whether a visit came from an ad, and are governed by Google's and Microsoft's own privacy policies. Where required by law, these tags respect your consent choices.
- Cookies. This site does not use advertising or tracking cookies. If you choose to save your name and email when leaving a comment, a basic functional cookie may be set so you don't have to retype them — that's the extent of it.
How information is used
- To operate and maintain the site and improve its content.
- To respond to your questions, corrections, and messages.
- To moderate and publish comments.
- To understand, in aggregate, which guides are useful (analytics).
I do not sell your personal information.
Comments
Comments run on the wpDiscuz plugin and are moderated: they're held for approval, and spam or links are removed. When you comment, your name and the comment text become publicly visible; your email address is collected with the comment but is not published. Avatars, where shown, are provided by the standard WordPress avatar service based on your email.
Third-party services
This site runs on WordPress and keeps third-party data sharing minimal. The services involved are:
- Hosting — EasyWP (Namecheap), which processes standard server logs.
- Analytics — WP Statistics, which stores visit statistics on this site's own server (it does not sell or share your data with advertisers), and Ahrefs Analytics, a cookieless analytics service that reports aggregate page statistics (visits, referrers, countries) without advertising trackers or cross-site profiles.
- Advertising measurement — when search ad campaigns are active, the Google Ads tag and Microsoft Advertising UET tag measure ad-driven visits and conversions using cookies. This site displays no ads and sells no data; these tags only tell the ad platforms whether their own ad led to a visit. See Google's and Microsoft's privacy statements for how they handle this data, and note that consent banners apply where legally required.
- Search tools — the site is connected to Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools, which report aggregate search performance, not individual visitors.
- Contact form — WPForms processes the name, email, and message you submit through the contact page so your message can be delivered to me. It is used only to receive and respond to your message, not for advertising.
- Embedded media — guide pages may embed videos (for example from YouTube). Playing an embedded video may set cookies from that provider under its own privacy policy.
No advertising. This site shows no ads and uses no advertising or affiliate networks — it's run purely out of an interest in tech and writing. Outbound links to Microsoft, Apple, Samsung, or other sites are governed by those sites' own privacy policies, not this one.
Data retention
Comments and their metadata are kept so follow-up discussion stays readable. Analytics and log data are retained per the providers' standard periods. You can ask me to remove a comment or message you've sent.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data, or to object to certain processing. EU/UK visitors have rights under the GDPR (including access, correction, and erasure). California visitors have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know and delete — and to be clear, this site does not sell personal information. To exercise any of these, contact me using the details below.
Children
This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your region). I do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
I may update this policy as the site changes. The "last updated" date at the top reflects the current version.
